In 1976 the decision was taken to remove the headcode markings from the front of locomotives since they were No. longer required by the railway's signalling staff to identify trains - much to the disappointment of most railway enthusiasts who valued the help they gave in following railway operations. So we have here Class 52 No. D1054 'Western Governor' in charge of an anonymous west-bound express at the familiar South Devon seawall location approaches Teignmouth on 20th April 1976.
