Sitting idle outside the works of Republic Locomotive in Greenville, SC on Saturday, 2 May 2009 is Hampton & Branchville GP-9 no. 686. Sandwiched in the middle of a short freight train, one can only hope that this former Norfolk & Western locomotive is due to visit Republic for an overhaul that will include a coat of paint! These 1750hp locomotives were built by EMD between the years 1954 and 1963.
