Class 24s No. 24078 and No. 24133 are seen at Wellington on 28th January 1978 on Mercian Railtours 'Farewell to Class 24' Railtour from Birmingham to Machynlleth. No. 24087 continued with Class 25 No. 25165 to Aberystwyth where a trip behind VoR No. 9 only reached Aberffrwd due to greasy rails. Returning to Machynlleth No. 24087 failed to restart and No. 24133 was accompanied by No. 25165 on the return journey. No. 24087 was withdrawn 3 days later, still in Wales, and No. 24133 was withdrawn in March 1978.
