The Spa Valley has confirmed the identities for the two visiting locomotives that will star at its upcoming diesel gala event on 2nd-4th August.

One of the headline attractions will be travelling almost the length of the British Isles to reach the event, with this being the Class 27 Locomotive Group’s No. 27001, which is normally based on the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway. Introduced as No. D5347 in June 1961, the locomotive spent its entire 26 year working life in Scotland, being allocated to Thornton Junction (62A) from new and then flitting between Eastfield (65A) and Haymarket (64B) sheds until its withdrawal in July 1987.

Joining it will be ‘Warship’ No. D821 Greyhound, which is normally based on the Severn Valley Railway and is making its first trip away from its home line for five years. Alongside the visitors, Class 10 No. D3489, Class 31/4 No. 31430 Sister Dora, Class 33/0 ‘Crompton’ No. 33063 R J Mitchell, Class 33/2 ‘Slim Jim’ No. 33201 and Class 73 No. 73140 will work the trains, and Class 207 ‘Thumper’ No. 1317 and Class 421 3CIG No. 1497 will also be in use.

An intensive timetable will be in use throughout the event, with trains running from 08:40 until 23:00 on the Friday and Saturday and from 09:30 until 18:00 on the Sunday.
