On 14th September 2019, due to engineering works at Calton Tunnel at the east end of Edinburgh Waverley Station, ECML Services had to be diverted via Carstairs, Carlisle and the Tyne Valley. Here, LNER Class 43/2 powercars Nos. 43310 and 43295, pass under the 1896 Grade II gantry cabin signal box on its approach to Hexham station, forming the 07:30 London King's Cross to Aberdeen service as Northern Class 156 No. 156485 heads in the opposite direction while undertaking a shunt movement, prior to returning to Newcastle.
