On the 2nd September 1973 diesel-hydraulic 'Western' No. D1023 "Western Fusilier" stands outside 'A' Shop while undertaking final testing before being released from Swindon Works for the final time. This was the last main line locomotive to be overhauled in the works and can now be found residing in the National Railway Museum at York.
