On the 14th April 1976, British Rail Class 47 No. 47601 being prepped for painting in Crewe Works, this was the testbed loco for the Ruston Paxman engines. The loco was subsequently renumbered 47901 and was withdrawn in 1990 and scrapped by M.C Metals of Glasgow in 1992.
