WCML Diversions were a regular feature during weekends along the S&C in the eighties providing a heady mix of extra traffic and traction. On the 4th May 1985, Class 47/4s Nos. 47447 & 47535 University Of Leicester double head across Ribblehead Viaduct the diverted 07.50 Manchester to Glasgow.
