Avonside 0-6-0ST No. 2004 'St Dunstan' relaxes in the midday sun after a busy morning shunting the yards at Snowdown Colliery in the Kent coal fields on 28th May 1975. The Dover-Canterbury main line runs immediately behind the boundary fence while the loco sits on the transfer siding where steam shunters exchange loads with mainline haulage. The main line is equipped with an electrified third rail but for safe operation the transfer siding has DC OLE for use by Class 71 electric locos. The later Classes 73/4 were provided with diesel power for more flexible "last mile" usage.
