Neilson Reid Class 02 0-6-2T No. 85 climbs towards Furnace Sidings during a Martin Creese 30742 charter on the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway on 17th September 2018. This was something of a homecoming as No. 85 was built in 1899 for the Taff Vale Railway, which connected the Cardiff area with the coal mining industry located a few miles to the north. The loco is pulling Great Western Railway engineer's saloon No. 6479, built in 1910 on the under frame of a carriage originally built for the Manchester & Milford Railway. It was initially allocated to the Taunton Civil Engineering Division, but was later transferred to Gloucester. It was acquired privately from the Dart Valley (now South Devon) Railway, and is currently in use on the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway.
