On 23rd April 2017 four trains, representing the past, present and future of rail travel, ran in parallel along the East Coast Main Line. The four trains were Virgin Trains Class 43 and Class 91, a Hitachi Class 800 and a set of BR Mk1s hauled by LNER A3 Pacific No. 60103 Flying Scotsman. At Shipton, the Flying Scotsman heads towards York followed by InterCity225, with DVT No. 82205 leading, and HST headed by Class 43 No. 43238.
