Tyne & Wear Metro Unit No. 4020 waits at the end of the line at South Hylton Metro Station ready to return to Newcastle Airport on 19th January 2017. The original Hylton station on the Sunderland to Durham line, closed in the 1960s as a result of the 'Beeching Cuts', was further west across a level crossing. Most of the Metro track from Sunderland was laid on the original trackbed.
