Virgin-liveried Class 57/3 No. 57307 'Lady Penelope' is stabled in Platform 8 at Crewe Station on 1st September 2008. Virgin Trains used their Class 57/3's for Thunderbird rescue duties between London and Glasgow as well as hauling Class 390 Pendolino No. services between Crewe and Holyhead. Instantly recognisable by her unique pink nameplate No. 57307 is in immaculate condition with silver painted buffers and white rimmed wheels. Subsequently passing to Direct Rail Services she still acts as a standby / rescue loco on the WCML today under contract for Virgin Trains.
