Stabled on Toton MPD Class 44 No. 44009 is seen awaiting her next duty on 30th August 1978. Entering service from BR Derby Works during December 1959 as Type 4 No. D9 she carried the name 'Snowdon' from shortly after delivery until December 1973. When this image was taken 5 of the original 10 Class 44's had already been withdrawn from service and No. 44009 would follow just six months later in March 1979, being later dismantled at BREL Derby Works during July 1980. Although not visible in this image following accident damage in 1969 No. 44009 had acquired a standard Class 45/46 nose end complete with 4 character headcode display, the only Class 44 to be so fitted.
