On 5th June 1988 Class 108 DMBS No. 53944 is on overhaul in the BREL Doncaster Works Carriage & Wagon Section. Built by BR Derby Works in January 1959 and at this time allocated to Manchester Newton Heath MPD she would survive for almost 6 more years although latterly in Departmental service as No. 977766, part of a Sandite Unit before being scrapped by C F Booth of Rotherham during April 1994.
