Stafford No. 5 Signalbox is due for decommissioning at the end of August. On the WCML Electrification during 1960/1961 it was adapted for electro mechanical operation by the contractor Westinghouse Brake & Signal Company as part of their contract covering the lines from Crewe Basford Hall to Penkridge and Milford & Brocton. It was retained along with Signalboxes at Stafford Nos. 1,2,4&6 because of shortage of finance. Nos.1,2&6 were subsequently removed as rationalisation took place at Stafford but No. 4 at the south end of the station and No. 5 at the north end have given reliable service for over 50 years.
