Comboios de Portugal Series 4700 locomotives Nos. 4701 and 4725 head north over the River Douro in Porto with a lightly loaded freight train on 2nd 1st June 2015. The bridge in the foreground is the disused wrought iron Ponte Dona Maria railway bridge built in 1877 by Gustave Eiffel. When constructed it was the longest single-arch span in the world and is now a prescribed national monument. The modern replacement reinforced concrete Ponte de Sao Joao bridge was constructed in 1991.
