On a very dull 6th October 1971, withdrawn WR 'Bulldog' Class diesel hydraulic No. D601 'Ark Royal' lies dumped in the yard at Barry. The loco was new to service in March 1958 from the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow and was withdrawn during December 1967 after a short service life of just 9 years and 9 months. Unfortunately, it did not share the fortune of many other locomotives that escaped Barry and into preservation, being scrapped by Woodham's during June 1980.
