A public footpath follows the route of the Lotschberg Mainline on the southern ramp between Hohtenn and Ausserberg and provides numerous superb photographic vantage points. Since the opening of the Lotschberg Base Tunnel, traffic is much reduced but on a glorious Spring Day on 4th March 1994 there was plenty of trains to photograph. BLS Class Re4/4 No. 180 starts the descent from the Lotschberg Tunnel at Goppenstein high above the Rhone Valley south of Hohtenn on 7.23 "Montverdi" 7.23 Basel-Venezia on 4th March 1994
