Large logo blue Class 47/4 No. 47455 approaches Glasgow Central Station on Tuesday 29th July 1986 with an arrival from Nottingham which has travelled via Leeds, Settle, Carlisle, Dumfries and Kilmarnock. Formed of just 4 Mark 1 coaches, 2 x BSK & 2 x SK, and hauled by a Class 47 it should have been quite a lively journey north. No. 47455 was new to BR in April 1964 as Type 4 No. D1575 and her first allocation was to Gateshead, Newcastle. Conversion to ETH and renumbering under TOPS to a Class 47/4 occurred during February 1974 while allocated to Crewe DMD. Crewe would also be her final home prior to withdrawl which took place in March 1990. Stored for over 5 years she was eventually cut up at BREL Crewe Works during June 1995 by MRJ Phillips. Also in shot is one of the Class 303 EMUs that served on Glasgow surburban duties for over 40 years and on the far right an ex LMR Class 120 DMU operating an Ayrshire line service prior to electrification.
