In the early evening sunshine Harzer Schmalspurbahnen GmbH 2-10-2T No. 99 7234-0 rests on Wernigerode Shed on Wednesday 2nd July 2014 after another day of climbing to the Brocken summit in the Harz Mountains of the former East Germany. One of 17 similar locomotives built at the Karl Marx Locomotive Works at Potsdam-Babelsberg in 1954 all of the class, Nos. 99 7231 to 99 7247, are to be found operating on this railway with normally around a dozen available for service with the remainder either undergoing major overhaul or stored for future use.
