Class 55 No. 55008 'The Green Howards' stabled on Haymarket MPD on Sunday 22nd January 1978. Delivered new to Gateshead MPD on Tyneside as D9008 this would become home for the next 18 years. Naming took place at a ceremony in Darlington on 30th September 1963. Further changes included repainting into BR Rail Blue in July 1967, dual braking in May 1968 and ETH fitment in October 1971. Finally she was renumbered to No. 55008 at the end January 1974. Transferred to York MPD in May 1979 this would be her only move as withdrawl occured on 31st December 1981 with the phasing out of the Deltics. Scrapping took place at BREL Doncaster Works during August 1982 although her No. 2 cab was removed and preserved as a travelling display.
