The LSWR '0298' Class of 2-4-0WTs were introduced in 1874 having been designed by W G Beattie; they were rebuilt by W Adams between 1884 and 1892 and again by R E L Maunsell between 1931 and 1935. Three locomotives outlived their brethren by many years as they were the only suitable class of locomotive to work the lines to the China Clay works in the Bodmin area. No. 30587 is one of those survivors and on 15th July 2012 it is seen approaching Bodmin General while working the 10:59 departure from Boscarne Junction hauling 4 China Clay wagons and two brake vans in connection with the Bodmin & Wenford Railway's gala weekend.
