Originally built between 1907 and 1937, the Inlandsbanan line was part of the Swedish Railways network up to 1992, when it was mothballed as unprofitable. The present Inlandsbanan company was formed in 1993 by 15 local authorities and runs a service from Mora in the south, via Ostersund to Gallivare. Only one train per day each way in the summer operates the full 746km from Ostersund to Gallivare, taking around 14 1/2 hours. Here the two services meet at Sorsele, operated by diesel railcars Nos. 1283 & 1356 on the northbound service and 1336 & 1342 heading south.
